Prom is coming sooner than you think.

Girls are starting to look for their prom dresses and have several different options on where to purchase. Many girls like to shop for brand new dresses, but others are looking for used ones as well.

Senior Becca Cole purchased her dress from Elegant Repeats, a discount bridal and prom consignment shop in Cedar Rapids.

“I went to there to save some money on a dress,” Cole said. “They had a wide selection of very pretty and unique dresses for a cheaper price, and I ended up falling in love with the dress that I picked out.”

Students can also find dresses online through social media. Junior Chloe Thein found a dress she liked on Instagram, which one of her previous classmates had worn before.

“I bought my dress from Maggie McGrane,” Thein said. “I wasn’t sure about it at first, but when I tried on the dress I loved it and decided I had to get it.”

Junior Macie Funke caught on to the social media trend and is attempting to sell her dress online.

“I’m selling my dress on Facebook and Instagram,” Funke said. “It’s a great way to advertise, and I’ve already had several people message me about purchasing it.”

Even though used dresses are being bought and sold, girls are still going to dress shops and falling in love with brand new dresses.

I love how the floral design wraps around my dress.

— Peyton Carlson (12)

Senior Peyton Carlson found her dress at Brides and Weddings and was head-over-heels for her dress when she tried it on.

“At first I was a little unsure of the dress because it’s not something I would normally wear” Carlson said. “But the longer I had it on, the more I loved it. The open back is my favorite part of the dress, and I love the pattern.”

Trying to find a dress outside of Manchester, junior Tamryn Washington found her dream dress at David’s Bridal in Cedar Rapids.

“I love how my dress fits me,” Washington said. “The style of the top is unique, and I’m very happy with what I purchased. I love dress shopping, and I can’t wait until next year.”
