Coaches Bob and Sue Morris have made a powerful impact on the bowling teams, taking the girls to state with a 9 to 0 season and the boys with a 5 to 2 season.
They have impacted not only the athletes’ performance but also helped each team member grow personally.
“Our team morale has grown since the start of the season,” senior Trayvn Sullivan said. “Everybody was their own person, and the more the season went on, the more we became one.”
Bob Morris feels the boys learned an important lesson this year.
“It’s easier to achieve any goal by working together and counting on your teammates to pick you up as opposed to doing it alone,” Morris said.
Sue Morris is pleased that each of the returning bowlers improved their average by as much as 30 to 40 pins.
“We saw a lot of growth in areas such as understanding mental awareness, stress, and pressure when they bowl,” Morris said. “The more the team learns to deal with these areas, the better we become.”
Bob and Sue Morris helped all of the bowlers become better connected through team bonding.
“They are very team-oriented, so they have helped all of the bowlers become better connected with each other,” junior Natalie Palmer said. “So we are able to build relationships with people that aren’t in our normal friend group.”
Before state qualifiers and after the bowling season, the coaches invited the team members to hang out at their house. Palmer appreciates the time to relax.
“We order pizza, play Wii bowling, watch TV, and play pool downstairs,” Palmer said.
The most memorable moment Sullivan had this season was when Bob Morris asked him to come into his office.
“He showed me his hall of fame and told me that I was going to be a part of it,” Sullivan said.
