Exploring and Touring the Manufacturing Industry

In celebration of Advanced Manufacturing Day on Oct. 7, 23 industrial tech students toured three local industries: Rockwell Collins, XL Trailers, and Henderson Manufacturing.

Students learned about an employer’s expectations in the industry and saw workers on the job. They watched presentations on manufacturing, design, and event management and accounting.

“It’s always fun touring facilities like that because usually you see people you know,” metals teacher Seth Harms said. ¨It’s always fun to see them in their work environment.”

Harms thought the experience impacted students positively and accurately showed them what to expect if they enter the manufacturing industry.

“I liked getting to walk around the businesses and seeing a normal workday for them,” senior Katelyn Mangold said. “I learned the different ways you can manufacture and run things at a company.”

Another student Bo Juran (10) said the Henderson tour interested him the most.

“They had the most product being put out and the most spirited workers,” Juran said.

Happy with the experience, Harms hopes to participate in Advanced Manufacturing Day annually.

“I think this will be something that will continue to grow,” Harms said. “I even think we might see more companies pursue [the event] a little harder too.”
