For sixteen years, the West Delaware Education Association (WDEA) has organized a reading celebration for Read Across America Day in March to celebrate the birthday of Dr. Seuss and the joy of reading.

During the school day on Mar. 1, Taylor Lake’s English students went to the elementary building where they partnered with one or two third graders to read to one another while enjoying popcorn and goldfish.

Sophomore Danielle Krogmann said, “We went down for Dr. Seuss Day so we could teach kids that reading is important and can be tons of fun.”

Spending this time with these younger students can create a lasting effect. Some high school students remember when they were the ones reading to the high schoolers.

“I remember loving getting to spend time with the other kids in our school district,” sophomore Ashlee Vick said. “They always brought cool books to read. We also got to show off our reading skills to them.”
