On May 6, West Delaware held a senior service day, during which many seniors helped around the community at various locations.
Seniors helped at the Wastewater Treatment Plant, the Dog Park, the Disc Golf Course, the Good Neighbor Home, Baum Park, Tirrill Park, the Kramer Aquatic Center, the Fairgrounds, the softball and baseball fields, and the high school.
Alaina Bardgett (12) helped at the Aquatic Center. Her group was split into two groups: girls picked up leaves from the gutters and cleaned the lockers, and guys spread mulch.
“I think it is important to give back to the community and give a jump start to people who need help,” Bardgett said.
Madylin Gramer (12) also helped at the Aquatic Center. She helped spread mulch in the park and helped clean the pool.
“I enjoy the clean environment of Tirrill Park,” Gramer said. “I also enjoyed playing pickleball there as a kid and spent a good amount of time at the pool. I am glad I could clean it up for others to enjoy.”
Madison Frost (12) helped at the Wastewater Treatment Plant. They planted trees and helped spread mulch.
“I think it is important because it helps the city workers and helps me get to know them,” Frost said.
Lyle Cassel (12) helped at the fairgrounds. His group painted the picnic benches.
“I have always enjoyed the fair, hanging out with friends, and seeing all the events,” Cassel said. “It’s nice to have good facilities to host the events in.”
Madie Deutmeyer (12) helped at The Meadows. She helped to remove, split, and replant hostas.
“I think it is important to give back to our community because they helped us get to where we are today,” Deutmeyer said.
