Freedom to fly: West Delaware senior Hawks have spread their wings with the new open lunch.
For the first time, West Delaware High School is offering seniors an open lunch period, allowing them to leave campus during their 25-minute lunch break.
Matt Weis, West Delaware’s assistant principal, feels that the open campus is going well.
“So far, 1/4 of the way into the year, it’s been going good. Seniors have been really good with it so far,” Weis said. “They leave and return on time and seem to enjoy the option of being able to leave.”
Matt Svare, West Delaware’s principal, also believes it has been going well.

“Seniors are enjoying the ability to go off campus,” Svare said.
Both administrators share concerns about students’ safety in getting to their destination, returning to school safely, and arriving on time.
Trent Menard, senior, was able to get his haircut at Traditions Barbershop during his open lunch.
“I was in and out within the 25 minutes of our given lunch,” Menard said.
Gabriella McDermott, senior, loves senior open campus.
“It gives me more one-on-one time with my friends outside of the school atmosphere,” McDermott said.
