The Class of 1970 recently established The Mountain Climber Award. Three 1970 alumni—Chris Mundy, Kris Tegeler, and Leo Monaghan—and Principal Tim Felderman played a key role in bringing the award to life.
The Mountain Climber Award is designed to recognize students who have faced and overcome significant challenges in their academic, behavioral, or overall citizenship development. The award does not focus on high academic or athletic achievements but instead honors those who have demonstrated resilience and determination in overcoming difficulties. It highlights the strength of character required to succeed in the face of adversity and challenge.
On a display in the freshman hallway, the message reads: “The Mountain Climber Award seeks to recognize students who have overcome difficulties to succeed academically, behaviorally, or in overall citizenship.”
Alex Neimer (12), Draven Krapfl-Dawson(12), Malachi Finch (12), and Trenton Mesch (11) are the first students to receive the award. Anyone can receive the award, but only seniors can apply for the scholarship.
