The West Delaware Speech team faced many difficulties due to COVID-19 restrictions. In spite of COVID, the speech program still took place. They ended with two large groups advancing to All-State.

Seventeen events qualified for state speech. Out of 17 events, 12 received division one ratings.

Two events received All-State nominations. One All-State nomination was Ensemble Acting performed by Maddie Hoeger, Natalie Kehrli, Faith Litterer, Sheeley McMahon and Anna Werner.

The second All-State event was a short film performed by Kelly Beckman, Sheeley McMahon, Andrew Salas, Nicholas Stocks, Karley Fisher and Jacob Wenger.

This year was crazy because none of the coaches have ever experienced anything like this before.

Despite the uncertainty the speech program faced, such as the number of people who could perform together and whether they could travel to perform at other schools, the coaches managed to pull off an eventful season.

As a first-time head coach, Abigail Goldsmith said, “This year was crazy because none of the coaches have ever experienced anything like this before.”
