Seedorff Masonry Inc. employees came to Basic Carpentry class for the first time ever to show students how to lay brick on October 19.

SMI contacted the school and set up a time for masons to visit the class. They set up stations in the woods room for students to practice spreading mortar and laying the bricks.

The stations had a table full of mortar and guides made of string and wood. The students built a small wall out of the mortar and brick.

“It was a good experience, especially if you are interested in the trades,” teacher Chad Sellers said. “The only thing I would change for next time is trying to find a bigger work area.”

Most students in the class enjoyed the chance to learn something new. “It was different,” junior Elizabeth Boyd said. “Not only was it something I’ve never done before, but it was something I’d never even thought about.”
