Despite West Delaware’s Esports team being a program for only four years, at least one of their teams has qualified for state every year.
The League of Legends team played Iowa City in the State semi-finals on Monday, May 19. To qualify for the state tournament, the League of Legends team defeated the number four-ranked Waukee Northwest.
Senior Nick Uthe, who balances soccer and Esports, was proud to qualify. “It felt good. It was like our hard work as a team paid off,” Uthe said.
Four teams have qualified for state this year—Smite, Rainbow Six Siege, Smash, and now League of Legends.
