Nov. 15 through 17, Coach Christian Carper led the West Delaware esports team to win games against several schools in the IAHSEA Fall State Tournament.
“I was really happy with our performance,” Carper said.
West Delaware ranked third for Class 1 in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate and second for SMITE, winning 4-3 and 6-1, respectively. They placed fifth overall in both tournaments.
“For SMITE, I feel like we could have done better. It was a really close loss,” Carper said. “For Smash, we did really good.”
Carper said the standout players were Zach Smith (12) for Smash and Jayden Gaul (12) for SMITE.
Senior Timothy Swenka said some of their success in SMITE can be attributed to their tactic of forming tight groups and using code words.
