At Decorah High School, Wyatt Voelker (10) strives to score against his opponent.

On Oct. 19, Wyatt Voelker (10) will face Spencer Mooberry from Osage at 6:30 p.m. during the Night of Conflict, hosted by IAwrestle.

The event will hold multiple wrestling matches at the Five Sullivan Brothers Convention Center in Waterloo.

Voelker said he received a tweet from Mooberry, asking if he wanted to participate at the Night of Conflict. Shortly after, Voelker responded, saying yes. Both wrestlers agreed to wrestle at 190 pounds.

Voelker finished last year’s season with a record of 63-17 and 23 total pins. He previously wrestled Mooberry at state wrestling as a freshman and won the match, 5-4, which led him to place fourth at state.

“It was my scariest match because if I won, I would be going into semi-finals,” Voelker said.

Jeff Voss, wrestling coach and teacher, plans to watch Voelker at Night of Conflict. Voss said he has noticed Voelker’s strong work ethic ever since he was a little kid. Voss has watched Voelker “steadily progress and get better.”

“The team is great at holding each other accountable to a high standard, and as a result, (Wyatt’s) improved,” Voss said. “He’s a good teammate and makes the people around him better.”
