West Delaware Journalism Earns Recognition

West Delaware Journalism students recently received recognition for 12 of their entries in the Iowa High School Press Association Spring Newspaper Contest in Class A. They were also one of the five News Team of the Year Finalists.
Juniors JoAnna Voss and Hannah Wenger earned first for their photo story on “Posting For a Passion.” Voss also received second for her sports photo in, “Starting the Season off Strong.” Voss said, “It felt nice to be recognized for my articles because we put a lot of time into them in and outside of class.”
Senior Madalynn Burke earned two second place finishes for her infographic called “Senior Spotlight” and for her Social Media.
Junior Tyler Salow received second place for Website Design and a third place finish for his feature story, “Speech Students Take Their Improv Skills to the Public.”
“I felt amazed. So much hard work goes into it, and you don’t realize how good you actually do,” Salow said.
Sophomore Isabelle Willey received third place for her sports story, “Little Changes, Big Differences.”
Senior Andrea Salow collected a third place finish for her news story, “Prevent and Protect: Scabies Outbreak Calls for Extra Precaution.”
Junior Emily Klostermann snagged a third place for her feature photo in her article, “Musical Mishaps” and obtained an Honorable Mention for her photo story on her article, “Students Perform at All-State and Senior Large Group Showcase.”
Sophomore Elijah Hill received Honorable Mention for his column, “Huntin’ Like a Boss.”
Senior Leah Philipp earned Honorable Mention for her staff editorial on, “Why Join FFA?”
Newspaper adviser Helen Temeyer is proud of her students’ articles and is glad all their hard work is paying off. “When I compare our work to the work of other winning schools, I am proud of our accomplishments,” Temeyer said.
