Many high schoolers dream of scoring a touchdown on the football field or placing first in the art show; however, junior Tyler Salow has always dreamed of writing a play.

During winter break, director Tina Ostrander approached Salow, asking him to write a short play because the production chosen didn’t have enough parts for the number of students interested.

Getting to work, Salow wrote, “The Director’s Dilemma.”

This is a short play about a director who wants to find the perfect play but can’t seem to find the one that fits quite right. It shows all of the trials and tribulations behind the scenes of a high school production.

Salow’s play was performed on Apr. 13, 14 and 15 prior to the main play, “Noises Off!”

“‘The Director’s Dilemma’ was a lot of fun,” freshman Taylor Hammer said. “It gave everyone a chance to act and have fun doing so.”

My favorite part was making all the bonds and memories with the cast and crew.

Salow wasn’t just the writer. He was the stage manager and assistant director as well.

This production has grown to be a source of pride for Salow. “It’s like your baby,” Salow said. “It’s like seeing your child grow up from this toddler that can’t walk into this fully grown human being.”

Looking towards the future, Salow plans to stay active with writing. “It’s a fun little hobby to do, and if I get the reward of getting it on the stage, that’s great,” Salow said.
