Last week, six West Delaware wrestlers competed in the 2018 IHSAA state individual wrestling tournament.

Mitchel Mangold (11) made his second debut at the state tournament and went 3-2 throughout the competition. Mangold placed fifth at 152 lbs.

“My experience this year was awesome because there were five other guys alongside me instead of just one,” Mangold said. “I was excited going into the state tournament because I had something to show.”

Sophomore Jack Neuhaus competed at the state tournament for his first time. Neuhaus went 3-1 over the three-day tournament to place seventh at 170 lbs.

“It was fun being able to compete against some wrestlers I’ve known for a long time,” Neuhaus said. “I didn’t reach my goal this year, so I’m going to use it as motivation going into next season.”

Others who qualified include Evan Woods (113), Jordan Bries (182), Harrison Goebel (195), and Carson Petlon (HWT).

Head coach Jeff Voss was proud of how the qualifiers wrestled over the course of the tournament.

We have five guys coming back with state experience, and they all learned some valuable lessons that will help them in the future,” Voss said. “We appreciated all the fans that came down and supported our team all week.”
