Journalism students traveled to Iowa City to attend the Iowa High School Press Association Fall Conference and to receive awards for last year’s yearbook on Thursday, Oct. 26.

Many stories and yearbook designs received awards.

First place for a school related story went to “Dressing the Part for Our Spirit,” written by junior Christine Boeckenstedt and senior Kira Vaske.

Graduate Anna Thole earned two individual awards, both second place, for her cover and the overall theme of the book.

Third place went to “Our Performance Under the Sea,” written by senior Rachel Haight and graduate Sammy Spray, and to “Our talent,” written by Haight and graduate Emma Kehrli.

Callasandra Spray (12) and JoAnna Voss (11) received third place for their story on the homecoming flood of 2016.

Senior Holden Smith’s article on Tiffany Nunley received honorable mention.

Junior Emily Klostermann, yearbook staff member, attended the conference. “I like seeing everyone get the awards because it shows that the hard work in class really pays off,” Klostermann said.
