It has been a successful few weeks for the West Delaware welders.

On April 7th, Shayne Fessler (12) and Sam Ruba (11) competed in Des Moines at the Plumbers and Steamfitters Local 33 Training Facility. Fessler earned sixth and Ruba placed eleventh.

On April 21, Tyler Chapman (12) won the Kirkwood welding competition. This is the first time in three years a West Delaware competitor has won first. West Delaware has now won the Kirkwood competition five times and placed in nine out of the last ten years.

Chapman won a Lincoln SP-140T mig welder worth about $600.

Out of the last ten competitions, the welders have placed in the top three, nine times.

“Our students were very respectable and represented WD very well,” said Seth Harms, welding teacher.
