The West Delaware band and four choirs performed at the Large Group Festival held at Decorah High School on Friday, May 9. The band earned a Division One rating, and the Mixed, Bass, Concert, and Treble Clef choirs each earned Division Two ratings.
Two judges scored the band 39 out of 40, while the third gave a score of 37 out of 40.
Junior trombonist Bridget Heideman expressed her excitement about the performance.
“I was most excited to play the songs for the last time with our best effort,” Heideman said.
Heideman’s favorite memory is sitting back and taking it all in after they played the last song.
Junior Makenzie Boyd plays the baritone saxophone.
“I think we did a very good job as a group,” Boyd said. “We only missed a total of five points out of 120, which is very, very good. I can’t wait to see how well our band does next year.”
Director Jonathan Green was happy with the band’s performance.
“Regardless of the division we got, it was the strongest and most memorable performance because it was the last concert of the year,” Green said. “The reason it was the best was because everyone said they were prepared. Band is a constantly moving puzzle.”
Senior Ali Robinson sings with the Concert Choir.
“I think we did a lot better than we expected; we definitely pulled it together, and we locked in,” Robinson said. “We worked as a team, which wasn’t happening weeks prior. The day of, we all locked in and did very good.”
