Sixteen awards were earned at the WaMaC Conference Art Show held at West Delaware High School on Wednesday, April 23.
This event showcased artwork from six schools: West Delaware, Independence, Solon, Mount Vernon, Marion, and Center Point-Urbana. A total of 120 pieces of art in 17 categories were displayed.
Teacher Jolene Pitzenberger-Timp felt West Delaware students did well.
“I was overjoyed how we did,” Pitzenberger-Timp said. “We have never won by a lot. It’s always been neck to neck.”
Louise Kames, a professor from Clarke University, was a guest speaker.
Sophomore Kira Roths won Best of Show and first place with her opaque oil painting of Kurt Cobain, an American musician and a member of the Nirvana band.
“It took a lot of time after school and over the weekends to get it done,” Roths said.
When she was younger, Roths used to draw on everything because she enjoyed it a lot.
“Once I got older, I could take the art classes and enjoyed art more and more,” Roth said.
“As I was working on my painting in class, PT recommended entering it in the competition,” Roths said. “I agreed because I thought it would be fun to try something new, and I was so happy she thought it was that good.”
