At the Animal Lab, two baby calves were recently born. Dime, a bull calf, was born on April 6, and Penny, a heifer, was born on March 24.
The Animal Lab has welcomed baby calves each year since it began in 2018.
Teacher Rachel Vontalge feels the Animal Lab provides a great opportunity for students to learn, care for, and gain hands-on experience with livestock.
“When we have calves, we typically keep heifers as replacement heifers to enhance our herd,” Vontalge added. “We sell steers to local farmers or auction barns after weaning them.”
