Eight months in, new West Delaware superintendent Jen Vance is building relationships.
Vance says that the most significant thing she wanted to focus on this school year was getting to know people and building relationships.
“I want kids to know who I am when I’m walking the hallway,” Vance said. “I don’t want to be just the person who sits in the office all the time.”
One of Vance’s goals is to be out and about in the community and get to know people.
“I’m a very social and approachable person,” Vance said. “I want people to talk to me. I want kids to talk to me. I want to know what’s going on.”
When not at school, Vance loves reading, being outside, going on walks, riding her bike, and spending time with family.
“I love watching my kids do things like watching Macy or Aubrey play volleyball,” Vance said.
A role model for Vance is her old superintendent.
“When I was in high school, our superintendent one time brought us popsicles to the track after track practice,” Vance said. “I think that’s what I want to be like. I want to be the superintendent that you know as a person.”
Another goal Vance has is to be one of the top schools in the state.
“I want us to be at the highest level,” Vance said. “I want our kids to feel success. I want to create an environment where kids, staff, and the community want to be.”
