Three students from West Delaware were accepted into the welding apprenticeship program on Nov. 19.
Juniors Hunter Cook and Aiden Wulfekuhle signed with Henderson Products. Junior Lyle Cassel signed with Paladin Attachments.
According to Seth Harms, welding instructor, to reach this opportunity, students need to be 16 years old and at least a junior. They are hired by the company just like any other employee.
“Students gain skills surpassing those of many new hires at the company,” Harms said.
Once students have completed their two-year internship, each student will receive a certificate from the U.S. Department of Labor.
“It is always so neat to see the students excited to go to work at one of the three companies that work with us for the apprenticeship,” Harms said. “This is a possibility to start a career that can make them a lot of money when they finish. This helps our companies grow and potentially keeps people in Delaware County to help support the schools.”
Harms would like to thank the Delaware County Economic Development and the Iowa Workforce Development for prepping the students for their interviews.
“I am very thankful for the great business relationships that we have with the Hendersons, XL, and Paladin. Without them agreeing to this, our students wouldn’t have the same opportunities that they do today,” Harms said.
