Blake Recker (12) competed in Kirkwood’s annual welding competition, placing second overall.

Senior Blake Recker placed second in Kirkwood’s annual welding competition on Friday, April 19.

Recker was challenged to weld a vertical up and down hill with metal pieces that were provided for him.

“The hardest part was only having a certain amount of time to get it done,” Recker said.

Over time, Recker has learned what works well when welding.

“It was a lot of trial and error getting to where I am now,” Recker said.

In the end, Recker saw the hard work pay off by receiving his second place title among the 30 other welders who competed.

Since 2010, West Delaware has been successful in placing every year.
