On Oct. 1, rain struck Delaware Country resulting in a flood.

High Water Hits Student Homes

“We had around two to three inches of water seep into our basement, and my front yard looked like a lake,” junior Malena Grummitt said.

This is how life was for a couple students earlier this month.

On Monday, Oct. 1, torrential rains struck Delaware County, which led to flooding and damage to several families homes in the area.

During the flood, you could watch mice hop around in the grass. Some were floating and swimming around, essentially using the ditch as a slide. I thought it was disgusting because I hate mice. I hope they never come back.

Sophomore Addie Reetz’s house was one of many that fell victim to water damage.

“Our basement and garage were flooded along with some of our personal belongings,” Reetz said. “It was ridiculous”

The rain came so fast that most residents didn’t have time to prepare their homes. Sophomore Blake Cook was able to salvage his items in time.

“We are used to being flooded so we put our things upstairs or on sawhorses,” Cook said. “The carpet got wet, but we were able to roll it up and save it because the carpet isn’t attached to the floor. We were one of the more lucky ones because it was mostly seepage that came into our basement.”

The community came together to help each other keep water out of one another’s homes.

“We had ten people at the house trying to remove the water with shop vacs and sump pumps,” Reetz said. “I was so grateful and relieved. I couldn’t believe all those people came to help us out!”
