Tonight’s the night. Tonight determines playoff positions and a chance at a district championship.

West Delaware hosts the Marion Indians for the final home game of the regular season. Marion, with a 5-2 record, beat Clear Creek Amana, West Delaware’s only loss, giving the Hawks a 6-1 record.

“This game is important to our team because we want a chance at the district title and playoffs,” quarterback Tanner Wessels said.

If the Hawks win, they are guaranteed a spot in the playoffs, continuing the legacy of making payoffs the past eight years. However, they must win next week’s game against Maquoketa by 17 points to earn the district title.

Head Coach Doug Winkowitsch is “pleased with where they’re at.” With 1,326 offensive yards, the Hawks have the most for class 3A, doubling Marion’s yardage of 692.

“All they can do is take care of what they control,” Winkowitsch said, “and play their game all four quarters.”
